I have been working with glass since 1992 and flame working has always been my main interest. I completed my trade test as a Scientific Glassblower in 1996 and went on to study for my A-levels at the Glass Craft and Design College in Kramsach (Austria) which I completed in 1998. There I worked with a number of tutors, including Rudi Gritsch (Bullseye Specialist), Wilhelm Bernhard (Glass Painter), Heinrich Uffelmann (Scientific Glassblower) and Markus Stricker (Scientific Glassblower).

After finishing college I moved to Edinburgh (Scotland) to work as a glassblower on a fixed term work placement of eight month. Having fallen in love with Scotland I decided to stay there instead of returning to Austria and I worked in the field of Scientific Glassblowing on and off for the following five years.

In 2005 I decided to extend my knowledge in the field of glass and re-enter full time education. Edinburgh College of Art’s Glass Department, headed by Ray Flavell at the time, was the ideal choice and I specialized in hot-formed glass. I graduated in 2008 with a First Class BA(Hons) Degree and was offered a full scholarship to continue my studies.

I completed my Postgraduate study in 2010 with a Master of Fine Art Degree with Distinction and I now work as the resident glassblower in the Chemistry Department of the University of Hull.

Glass is a material that is adaptable to many uses and functions. It is a delicate and fragile material but at the same time a common structural component due to its transparency and strength. Combining my skills as a Scientific Glassblower with the Art of Neon is a logical evolution for me and my work. Neon Signs usually consist of text and images. I am experimenting with different contexts, and more subtle narratives constructed out of glass and light. One of my research subjects is psycho-geography and the use of maps in art. With my work I want to transfer the passion I feel for the material to the audience and show the potential of glass which reaches far beyond the craft context.
